Eagles Mere Friends of the Arts is offering twelve classes in art, music and drama, including a “Fiber Week” featuring three classes in the fiber arts. All classes are at the David A DeWire Center, 891 LaPorte Ave, Eagles Mere unless otherwise noted.

Introduction to Drawing with Gerry Mann
Who says you can’t draw? Drawing is a learned, not inherited skill, so everyone is welcome! Participants in this class will use a variety of media as they explore different means of drawing expression.
Fiber Week: Stitching Class with Sally Kahler
Today's fashion today follows various whims and trends. Embroidery on jeans and jackets is once again popular, so this will be the focus for this stitching class. In this class you will learn various stitches including French knots, feather stitch, straight, running and satin stitch. After practicing the stitches, you will create a design to embroider on your own jeans, jackets or tops.
Inside Look: A Mini Course in Constructing a Play
Enrich and deepen your theater going experience as you take a front row seat at the rehearsals for The Forever Question by James Christy Jr. and directed by Harriet Power. Interact with our three 2023 Eagles Mere Artists in Residence, director Harriet Power and actors Sophia Barrett and Jake Blouch . As you engage with and observe the director, cast and design staff, you will gain insight into the production process and understand the choices and changes that happen when a play is brought to life.
Fiber Week: Botanical Printed Scarves with Sara Setzer
In this class you will make 3 gorgeous scarves, and more if you choose purchase additional blank scarves to dye. Inspired by nature and the world around her, Sara Setzer will guide you through the eco printing process, showing you how to create wearable, functional art with a one-of-a-kind look.
Fiber Week: Needle Felted Paintings with Sara Setzer
Needle Felting is a craft that is rapidly growing in popularity. Needle felters use a special felting needle and felting wool to create designs on felt that can framed or used to create decorative objects. Using this easy to learn skill, each participant will create a 10-inch felted painting in a predetermined or freehand design, depending on their individual skill level, using wool and felting needles.
Watercolor Painting with Linda Berry
We all have gifts and we all have gaps! If you consider yourself a novice, or somewhat experienced artist, this class is an opportunity to strengthen your art and fill in many of your gaps. We will all paint a still life composition of flowers and also have time to work on a watercolor painting of a subject you choose.
iPhonography with Julie Stauffer
Discover the power of what's in your BACK pocket!
In this workshop with iPhone photography expert Julie Stauffer, you will learn to use your iPhone as a camera and editing device and will discover the vast technical capabilities of this electronic device. Your photographs taken with your iPhone promise to stand out as creative and personal interpretations of what you "see" before you press the shutter. This workshop is designed to meet you where you are so that those already familiar with some of the introductory information can take off in new directions.
Introduction to Acrylic Landscape Painting with Gerry Mann
Participants in this class will work to finish a small landscape painting of a subject/place of their choosing by working from a photograph. Various painting tools will be discussed and modeled. The concept of an underpainting will be demonstrated and the basics of color theory will be taught as individuals build their images and experience the nuances of color expression.
Textured Mug Clay Class with Melissa Jenkins
Learn how to create a custom-made, functional clay mug or stein using slab building techniques in this beginner level class. Use our extensive collection of textures to create your own tapered mug with a personalized handle. We’ll all follow along the same basic steps, but each mug will be uniquely styled. Choose a color from our house-made dip glazes to finish off your design.
Experimental Watercolor with Pat Leibowitz
This 3-day workshop, taught by Eagles Mere’s own teacher/artist Pat Leibowitz, will teach you to take your water color painting to new levels as you experiment with textures, papers and different techniques to expand your artistic options. Each day will include demos guided by student interest, and plenty of time to develop your own work in a supportive atmosphere. You will also receive individualized guidance as you paint. We will devote the final half hour of each day to positive and helpful class critique to help you progress in your work. Together we will make this class fun and instructive.
Ukulele Workshop with Simple Gifts
Take this beginner level class in Ukulele and then have fun performing a song with Simple Gifts at their concert on the Village Green that evening. In this class, you will learn 2-3 chords and the basics of fingerpicking and strumming and be ready to go!
