This in-depth course invites students of all levels to explore fundamental drawing and watercolor skills, with a specific emphasis on depicting the human head. Through exercises covering short, intermediate, and long poses from life, students develop the ability to draw the head from various sources, including pictures, self-portraits, and live models. Emphasizing solidity and structure, the course explores the complexities of the portrait form. Given the unforgiving nature of watercolor, the curriculum emphasizes understanding the medium’s basics. Students learn to connect shapes, achieve lifelike flesh tones, and avoid overworking. The approach encourages embracing accidents while maintaining control, fostering spontaneity and vibrancy in paintings. Drawing inspiration from renowned artists like John Singer Sargent and Winslow Homer, the goal is to instill confidence and achieve definitive results in watercolor technique. The course includes lectures, demonstrations, exercises, and personalized guidance to help students discover their unique style, ensuring an enjoyable experience while painting portraits.
