Sally has a long history of studying embroidery and weaving from various cultures. Embroidery on cloth is traditional, but embroidery on paper pushes the boundaries of traditional techniques to create contemporary art. What Sally loves about stitching on paper is the texture and variety it creates in unique patterns. In this class, marks on paper will be created with watercolors, markers, crayons and pencils for unique cards or framed art. Hand and machine embroidery will then be added to these pieces for one-of-a-kind creations. This is a fun class to explore your creativity. No experience necessary. All materials will be provided.

In recent years Sally Kahler has taught embroidery skills to members of the Triangle Weavers Guild in Chapel Hill. Sally is also an accomplished weaver, weaving on an 8-harness loom. She is best known for her handwoven scarves with hand-painted warps that create painterly patterns. Sally grew up in Dushore and, when she is not in Chapel Hill NC, spends her summers in Laporte, PA.
