Tufted Titmouse
A small gray bird with a brushy crest, the Tufted Titmouse is common in our eastern forests. Titmice typically build their nests in cavities they might find in dead trees. They often line their nest with hair, sometimes plucked directly from living animals including raccoons, opossums, mice, woodchucks, squirrels, rabbits, livestock, pets, and even humans. Look for them all year long near feeders or flitting through the outer branches of deciduous tree canopies.
