Great Blue Herons

Great Blue Herons are best known for their ability to fish. They spend most of their time slowly wading along the edges of marshes, estuaries, and ponds. Although they appear sluggish, don’t be fooled, these birds can strike at a fish with lightning speed. We are fortunate in that the Great Blue Heron can be found almost anywhere as far north as New England year round. They do tend to disappear from Eagles Mere once our waterways freeze over.
