Students will create their choice of either a set of 4 wood coasters or one (or possibly two) bar boards. Both projects involve similar tasks and skills so each student may choose which they prefer to make. All work will be done in one 3-hour session at the Factoryworks Woodshop located in the Pajama Factory in Williamsport. The Woodshop will be closed to its members during our class time.
Students will select the wood pieces by color and species they wish to use, cut them to the approximate size using a table saw, and prepare the pieces for gluing using a jointer. Since glue requires 24 hours to set, students can then select already glued coasters or bar board pieces similar to their original plan. Students will finish the work on the piece using band saws, drum sanders and random orbit sanders. The completed pieces will then be oiled and be ready to go home with their new owners!
About Dave Carson
Dave has been a lifetime seasonal resident of Eagles Mere and a permanent resident since retiring in 2017. Since discovering the Factoryworks Woodshop in Williamsport, where membership gives access to a large array of professional grade woodworking tools and equipment, I have been turning bowls and creating cutting and charcuterie boards. I particularly like the attractive combinations possible with various colors and grain patterns of tree species. I look forward to sharing my knowledge and experience with Eagles Mere Friends of the Arts classes.
