Ages 16 +
Becky comes to this workshop with the idea that everyone is creative, everyone can find their own voice and succeed in this medium. The collage process is so flexible and Becky will create an environment where the beginner to the advanced artist will learn, grow, create, have fun, and walk away with skills to use in their art practice AND finish some cool collages.
Becky will introduce the processes to covered in class with many examples and demos so you will be confident to create your own unique collages. We will create with a variety of layering techniques using photo transfers printed on tissue paper, transparencies, fabric, etc. We will transfer onto papers, fabric, metal, glass, wood, and much more with multiple transfer techniques. Each student will build at least 4 collages along the way.
Becky also creates digital collages and will discuss and demonstrate several ways to use layers in Photoshop to create a collage with digital textures and photographs. If you bring your own laptop, we’ll spend time in class working on a digital collage.
Becky will be bringing some photographs on transfers ready for the collage class, but you have the option of bringing your own photos that we’ll scan and print during class OR email copies of the photos to Becky ahead of time and she’ll have them ready for you to use in class day one.
Especially since this is a milestone year for Eagles Mere Friends of the Arts, if you’d like to create a collage with your photos and memories of Eagles Mere, Becky will also help you look at options for your collage. Whether it’s treasures from your years in Eagles Mere, newly-found family photographs, or something completely new, we will spend the second day working on a larger collage incorporating those techniques we played with on day one.
You’ll walk away at the end of class with: 4 unique and original collages; an understanding of at least eight ways to use photo transfers to create collages; use a variety of adhesives to attach collages; use a variety of substrates to build a collage upon; use encaustic wax as one way to seal collages; create with a group of cool artists in a low-stress, relaxed environment; see/build digital collages…..and much more.
