Dog Day Afternoon (US. 1975)
A 50-year-old film! This crime drama is based on a Life magazine article which chronicled the 1972 robbery and hostage situation at a bank in Brooklyn on a hot, boring August day. The leader, with his amateur crew, tried to rob a bank to pay for his lover’s gender-reassignment surgery. But the heist goes terribly wrong. The film, directed by Sidney Lumet and starring Al Pacino and his off-Broadway acting pals, was a critical and box office success in 1975. A discussion will follow the film.
